Handcrafted electroformed jewellery, made with meraki.
Meraki Jewellery is created through the process of electroforming. This particular type of alchemy involves slowly growing copper around my jewellery. By using a completed electrical current in a special, well balanced solution, I'm able to attract copper to the surface of anything I choose. The way in which I "grow" my copper is very unique so not a single piece of jewellery can ever be exactly replicated. This means that you'll be the only one in the world to ever own this exact piece. Before starting the electroforming process, I design and hand sculpt around every piece, making sure it looks perfect before I begin it's growth in my electroforming tank. A lot of patience and attention to detail is needed once the electroforming process begins as I frequently check the piece over the course of 1 to 5 days. All of my designs are formed with exceptionally thick layers of pure copper as each piece spends no less than 12 hours and oftentimes up to 60+ hours in my electroforming tank. This creates a extremely durable piece unlike flash plating (a method commonly used to produce cheap jewellery with a very thin layer of metal that can typically be scratched right off). Once the piece is fully formed in thick, pure copper I sand and hand polish all of my jewellery. To give pieces an antiqued look, I then dip and hand paint on various patinas. Some patinas I develop for a few minutes, others for many days at a time. A final polish is then carried out to bring out the lovely highs and lows for increased shine and depth. The final step is to add a non toxic, skin safe sealant which protects the copper and reduces the risk of tarnishing. This sealant has a very high strength and requires a full 3 days to cure before the jewellery can be worn.
